Who Verifies Healthcare AI?

The 2027 Healthcare AI Verification Survey is a forthcoming report, publishing in January. It draws on academic and peer-reviewed research on healthcare AI verification methods, and on recorded conversations with major health systems, medical staff offices, physicians, CVOs, and credentialing committees about the risks when AI is not rigorously verified before it is deployed in healthcare administrative and clinical workflows.

About CareLumi, Inc.

CareLumi built the verification layer for healthcare AI and launched out of the University of Chicago. The company is led by a team with 20+ years building healthcare, federal, and financial automation solutions.

CareLumi provides credentialing, licensing, privileging, enrollment, and verification solutions for the teams who verify practitioners before they care for patients: medical staff services, CVOs, credentialing committees, and health system operations leaders.

Customers run their AI workflows and existing software through the CareLumi infrastructure, which audits every action humans and AI take. Teams always know each output has been verified, with 0 hallucinations. If a mistake ever occurs, they can see exactly where the failure happened, which corrective action to take, and where liability is assigned.

The report behind the question

Behind the question are the teams who decide whether a practitioner is ready to care for patients. Their experience, shared in recorded conversations, shapes the findings, alongside a close look at what rigorous verification requires in practice: defined checks, evidence that can be reviewed, and a record of what was verified.

  • 01Voices from health systems, medical staff offices, physicians, CVOs, and credentialing committees
  • 02What those teams say is at risk when AI outputs are taken on trust
  • 03Grounded in peer-reviewed research and the published work of university and affiliated journals and publications, with verification methods that can be audited.

Why this question matters

Medical staff services and CVO offices are the forefront of patient safety. These are the offices that verify every credential before a practitioner cares for a patient, and they have done that work by hand for a long time. They understand what AI can do, because they carry the volume. They also know the real risks, because in this work a mistake is never abstract. It is the wrong practitioner, the wrong privilege, the file that did not match.

So the question is not whether AI will take on more of this work. The question is what stands behind AI when it does. A human in the loop is a start, but a human checking an output is not, by itself, a method. Rigorous verification means a defined way to check AI actions and outputs, evidence that can be reviewed, and an audit trail that shows what was verified, by whom, and when.
